Speed up Your Word

Using Word after a period of time, we may find that It takes longer and longer time to launch our Word, many operations or settings may cause that. Maybe your anti-virus software has some office extensions and it scans your Word document every time you open Word; or your Word load too many templates and add-ins while it is starting.

First, check your anti-virus software and change its settings, you can make the anti-virus software scan your document only when you appoint it. Then, delete unnecessary startup items.

Under the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP", you'll find your .dot files – these are startup items of your Word. Note that you must set to show your hiding folders to find the "Application Data" folder.

Move these dot files to the folder of "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates", then when you launch your Word, It will no longer load the templates and add-ins.

You can also delete unnecessary fonts to speed up Word startup.Go to Control Panel and choose "Appearance and Themes" folder, then select Fonts folder here. You will see all your fonts here, you can remove some unnecessary items to another folder or delete them.

Now restart your Word, you'll find it startup faster than before. If your Word processes slow while it is running, you can make some settings to make it fast.

Click office button and select "Word Option", you can uncheck the functions you never use, maybe you don't need Spelling & Grammar check, you can uncheck it to stop it running while you are typing. And you can lengthen the auto save time to speed up your Word.

Then remove the useless add-ins too, select Add-In item you want to manage and click Go.
